African Fashion Week…Introducing Yefikir Design

Posted in

Ethiopian fashion is vibrant and ever-changing. Yefikir Design is one of the many brands that highlight the emerging fashion sense within Ethiopia. Made in 2009 by Fikirte Addis, an Ethiopian designer based in Addis Ababa, Yefikir Design serves as a representation of fashion for her home country. Her designs channel Ethiopian culture while mixing in modern accents with a contemporary flair to elaborate on the growing diversity and beauty of Ethiopian culture. The garments are hand-woven cotton fabrics called netella emboldened with a golden border called a tebib. The beautiful, airy fabric allows for graceful movements capturing the attention of onlookers. Yefikir Design displays the versatility of Ethiopian textiles with designs that range from regal maxi dresses to similar yet flirtatious mini dresses. We adore this elegant and flirty poof mini dress with the simple shoulder strap. This dress compliments the model’s skin tone beautifully with its contrast of white cloth, layered with the gold and brown accents of the tebib. Overall this is a sexy, modern and stylish look, showcasing the perfect example of the emerging, fashionable Ethiopian woman.
